You Would Think

You would think that a person of age had at least learned wisdom
At least through adversity, found a knowledge of how to handle things to come
You would think that a lifetime of trials and tribulations would give a person a larger perspective
Allowing them to know the weight of words, and the proper use of well-timed expletives

But no, if you thought these things, you'd be dead wrong and deserve the punishment
What comes to pass in time has no bearing on character, it just adds to physical detriments
The place wisdom originates from is the mind, and must have seeds already growing from the heart
Time only helps to join the two if the seeds didn't wither and die from the early start

You would think that one could see the larger picture in the memories of a long life
Could understand love and the consequences of it from previously having been a husband or wife
But this is not so, life doesn't equate itself to fit in little quotes to make permanent fixtures
It's a malleable thing, a series of unassociated, blurred memories represented by still frame pictures
