But What of The Warrior Poet

Poetry didn't simply used to be used like this
Poets used to document history, and at the same time were catalysts
For the type of change that poets "talk" about today
Old school poets used to fight to the death for yesterday

I understand your angst, your love lost, and your pain
I know that it means a lot to you not to have to refrain
From talking about all of your pent up emotions on this subject or that
But rather than talking about what you see, are you ready to take up the bat?

Yes?

No?

But what of the Warrior Poet isn't there even a vestige left?
Or was the fighting spirit cut out leaving a deep cleft
Into the soul we once had as a proud and fearsome profession
All I hear are words upon words, ceaseless painful confessions

And it shames me to think of that lone nude Celtic warrior standing amongst his fallen foes
Who, with wounds agape, limped home to document the battle with blood-stained prose
Or even so recently as the civil rights movement behind Dr. Martin Luther King
What made so many risk so much? Just think of the reverberations of "I had a Dream!"

Yes, he was killed, as many bearers of truth tend to be
But you see my point, true poets not only document, but change history
I want to be proud to be a poet again and take up both the pen and the sword
I want to make men see the truth AND act upon it by just the power of My Word.
