Slavery's Over
How many more years until we give up the term "slavery"?
There have been enough tears shed, so why not let it be?
You do realize that you've never been a slave to anything other than wages?
All of your pain-soaked cries are later than just a few of history's pages
Yes, it was a nasty time in the perspective of the human saga
But hearing about it repeatedly just seems an incentive for more drama
How can you or I truly understand the slave experience without living it now?
I suppose that a better question is why is it so important to know how?
So far, every generation is doing better than the one that came before
Repeating every degradation just seems a way to keep score
Let's do a rundown of who's suffered the most:
Well, it's neck and neck and neck with the Inca's, Jews, and American Indians, each with a genocide to boast
The Jews have suffered for around 4,000 years or so
As far as the Incas are concerned, there are no more no matter where you go
The blacks have about 300 years, not exactly the worst of the bunch
American Indians are still a captive nation, so after genocide, they're still feeling the crunch
The obvious winners of the contest of who's suffered the most
Go to the Incas, but you don't hear too many complaints from a ghost
So take it into consideration where you are in your life at every breath
Stop complaining about pain you've never known, and actually honor your ancestor's deaths.
