Once
You would have thought that it would have died by now
We could have fought and maybe should've lied in the clouds
But we didn't dream when we had the chance
We just screamed in silence, drowning our old romance
These are just thoughts thrown at the wind where we once were
At the lesson taught, unknown when we begin, and at the end, ashes stir
The embers won't die because the fire roared so immense
Our tender lies caused the wire that shored us to tense
It snapped off and we drifted into a sea of broken dreams
We snapped hurtfully and rifted, tearing our spoken love's seams
And here we are, several years later looking into each other's eyes
Far past the lakes of shed tears, the greater pain is brooking in our unheard sighs
I've never fallen out of love with you or let go of the memory
It's been severed, black shawl and gloves set the tone for what died in me
Though you stand close enough to touch my face
I know you are stranded, as am I, clutched to a far away place
We will never be as we once were, just dying embers
There is no more lever to guage the sighing death of the love we both remember.
