Is the memory of what you and I used to be
Images flitting through my mind like will o' wisps
How you used to smile at me, taking kisses in sips
The way your eyes used to laugh a moment before you did
Our dreams of marriage, picket fence, laughing kid
At that, another tear falls to replace the first
We used to have a need for each other, an insatiable thirst
And now, I feel the all of the protective emotional walls
It's so hard just to listen to your voice during sporadic phone calls
I can't hate your new boyfriend, who could resist you?
I'm not blind to the fact he's a good man, kind and true
It doesn't change the way I feel and have felt over the last 8 years
It doesn't mean that some nights, I'm not overcome with memory's tears
