Hard To Take

I've seen you perform on three different occasions and have been more effected on each
You express the kind of pain in your poetry when you speak that's so deep it can't help but teach
The feel of verbal swords sinking slowly into the depths of one soul to the point that I have to beseech
Please pause for a moment before my tears fall freely, give me a moment to discover that the light of hope is still within reach

It's hard to take so much pain at once thrown out with such unrestrained viscosity
I'm mesmerized by your voice, by the imagery, by so much darkness flowing within so much beauty
I have to listen to your poetry with my head down because I don't want to look up at you and weep openly
I want to hug you whenever I see you just to let you know your powerful effect on me R.A.C.

I was still thinking of your words when I got home from Denny's at 3:30, with the lights out
Not just your poetry, but the preamble before the show when you told me that your mom wanted a friend to kick her in the stomach to get you out
And, it's unnerving, the way you're able to say it in passing with a half-smile, giving no indication of the inner pain without
I respect you for you strength, I respect you for your pain, and I respect your talent, to that, most of all, I am humbly devout
